For the second year in a row, those who trust owner David Purdon to provide the highest quality meats, seafood and cheese for their meals have voted Muskoka Meats as Muskoka’s Best Butcher.
“We’re growing, changing and progressing,” says Purdon of his thriving business located on Highway 11 North two doors north of The Muskoka Store, just south of Gravenhurst.
“However, attention to detail remains one of our mainstays. It is so important in the meat industry. We have the finest meats and spices, and use traditional preparation methods. This means we make small batches that get extra care and attention.”

The shop is renowned as the home of the Lumberjack Steak – a generously sized marinated crosscut steak that people drive miles to buy for the barbeque.

but we use the best such as Hungarian paprika and Chinese garlic,” explains
Purdon. “It makes such a difference to the colour and flavour.”|
Meats are kept to a standard 85% lean by eliminating most fat and all gristle.
The shop also treats customers to one specialty type of seafood and wild game per week. Game selections include elk, bison, caribou, wild boar and venison, while seafood includes Wild Pickerel, Yellow Perch, and Wild Whitefish. “I’m always looking for something different, something special,” says Purdon.
Customers can also order sides and hinds of beef, half or whole pigs, and lamb cut and wrapped to their specifications, as well as free range turkeys.
